More Than Palsy

It takes balls to live with Cerebral Palsy.

Ever heard of Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral Palsy is a condition that, despite affecting an estimated 17–50 million people worldwide, remains underrepresented and neglected. FightTheStroke is an Italian foundation that supports young stroke survivors and their families, while promoting their rights and fighting to make the condition more visible to everyone.

Since no one can describe life with CP better than those who live it, we came across a slam poem by Scottish playwright Jack Hunter – who himself lives with the condition – entitled “You’ve Got to Be Ballsy to Have Cerebral Palsy”. His raw and powerful words inspired us to reach out and collaborate with him to rewrite his original piece, transforming it into the first film about Cerebral Palsy: a collective story that captures CP across different life stages and varying degrees of severity, to prove that it truly “takes balls” to live with a disability in a non-disabled world.

“Raw, powerful and bold.”

“An authentic picture of CP challenges.”

“Words and images that hit like punches.”

A poem inspired by true stories

Alongside Jack, the cast of the film features other people with CP, each with a unique personal story: from the frustration of specific rehab tasks - like tying shoes - to managing menstruation with half of the body uncooperative, and even the story of a young man determined to become a doctor, defying every stereotype.
